Love the painting and the rich colorful blues, reds, greens, & yellows! A nice addition to our cowboy/southwest decor vibe.

Beautifully expressed rendition of the Shrine of the Bab. The frame and matting showcase the print. We have it prominently on our living room wall with other sacred pictures.

I think the frame and mat work very well with this, it is really impressive in person. Grouped with a small Grant Wood with high quality lighting it sets the mood for a Georgia farmhouse.

Artist's Description
This is a lovely wildflower that intrigues me. It never opens up, always looks like a bud, and I watch the bumblebees crawl into the flower and disappear then crawl back out.
Closed Gentians are native to North America, especially in our Northeastern corridor, and bloom in late summer. Here we see them in late August and early September. This picture was taken August 24, 2012, at Green Lane Reservoir in East Greenville, Pennsylvania, USA.
These plants are considered "threatened" in the states of New York and Maryland. Although I can find them in Pennsylvania, it does take some looking. If you find some please don't pick them.

About Carol Senske
I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

wonderful image of the Closed Gentian Carol. They never bloomed here this year for me, dry weather. The Fringed ones didn't either, so I will enjoy yours. f/v
Carol Senske replied:
We haven't seen a fringed gentian in 20 years - sadly. A couple homes were built on land where they used to proliferate and the people constantly mow the area. I fear they are no more. These closed gentians are in a semi-protected area, a reservoir, so I have high hopes that they will continue to thrive for many years. I need to find more fringed gentians, though!!! Thanks for the V/F, and may your gentians bloom in gay abandon next year:>)

Wow so interesting ,Great shot ,beautiful and so interesting ,wow never opens . Great info on description ,you are always so knowledgable ,informative Miss Carol. It looks like a very sturdy plant ,are the leaves stiff and are the buds pretty big ??
Carol Senske replied:
The grow up to 2 feet tall and yes, they are pretty sturdy. The flowers, too, are sturdy - great observations, Kathy! Here is a web site with some general info. Althoufh I only see them in damp situations, I believe they can appear in other places but not sure where to tell folks to search except in areas like lake banks and wetlands. http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/prairie/plantx/bt_gentianx.htm
