Fave and vote. Certainly tells the story of ghetto life. w

Merton Allen replied:

Wanda, Thanks for your comment. It was shocking reality to see how the poorer inhabitants of Venice, Italy live ... and with all of that beauty surrounding them. Mert

CONGRATULATIONS on your HONORABLE MENTION in the "Abundance and/or Poverty" Contest sponsored by the group, OUR WORLD GALLERY. Excellent work and vote and favorite.

Merton Allen replied:

Lenore, Thanks for your kind comment, it is appreciated! After spending a full day seeing all of the grand and glorious sites in Venice, Italy, we left the mainstream visitor's treck and explored the usually unseen parts of Venice. What a contrast to see how the poorer people live! Mert

Ah, a door AND windows with the added benefit of my colors. I wonder how this would look near "Sit and Eat".... Julie Roberts

Merton Allen replied:

I think the two are so drastically different that both would be destroyed if they were hung side-by-side. I like to photograph both severe 'negatives' as well as 'positives' ... 'beauty' as well as 'ugly'.

My wife is a huge fan of Ms. Sisti's work. I am also but my wife is the one who introduced me and she is just a huge fan. I have bought this as a Christmas present. I can not wait to see her with the gift. My next purchase, I hope it to be of Grizzly Bears from Yellowstone, Rasberry and Snow. I think that is their names but I am at the age where names sometimes just bounce around inside the cranial vault. We have our own pictures of the two and we actually met Ms Sisti while taking the photos. Thanks for your work. My wife loves horses. I rescued a wolf back in the 80s so I have a love for Wolves. If I get more room in the house I plan to purchase more of her work. May God Bless. I have no photo of the photo. I have not given the present yet. Doug Mattox

Mike Moyers's work was such a great find! We have a friend whose favorite Gospel passage is John 21:12 ("Come, have breakfast") and so this could not have been a more perfect gift. Very high quality and quick service as well. We also love the Advent series and will be purchasing more in the future.

quality is pretty shit to be honest. for the price I paid, both canvas frame and print out photo, ended up costing more than $500AUD for a shitty print. quite disappointed. delivery was good but besides that quality is shit

Love this master piece. The artist has truly captured our Savior. We are grateful to have his passionate work of art in our home. The print quality is good, ended up a little darker than the artist originally painted it

Artist's Description

This is an apartment house in a ghetto-section of Venice, Italy. The building is very old but still occupied, with blinds and curtains on the windows. The entrance-way into the building had no door, and through this portal is visible an old vestibule and a badly-worn unkempt, dirty flight of stairs. Next to this portal was once another door, which has been partially bricked in and is now a window. The discoloration of the bricks and the stained painted upper surface, contrasted with the windows, door, and front sidewalk results in this interesting photograph.

About Merton Allen

I've been involved with photography since 1939, having been introduced to it at the 1939 New York City World's Fair. I began shooting, printing, enlarging photos since I was 10 years old. I started with an old Kodak box camera. I used springs, electrical contacts and rubberbands to rig up the box camera's shutter to synchronize it to a homemade flashbulb holder, so I could photograph babies and toddlers, for pay, in their homes. I saved my earnings to accumulate sufficient funds to purchased a Kodak 35mm camera outfit in 1944. I continued this "business" through high school and into college. Immediately after graduating from college I was sworn into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Lieutenant, serving on active duty for 2...
