Artist's Description
All of the kites take months to assemble. Each kite has a theme. small pieces of paper are painted then glued to the large kite. The Giant ones are too big too fly. Large, heavy bamboo poles hold the giant kites together. Too dangerous to take off in flight. This kite is homage to Mayan Women.
About Nettie Pena
Nettie Pena was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. At a young age Nettie travelled with her sister and parents all over California. Seeing the Giant Redwoods for the first time was an unforgettable experience. Their vacations included traveling by car through Arizona, visiting the Grand Canyon, Santa Fe- New Mexico and Texas. At age 17, Nettie was completely amazed to see the tall buildings in New York City. Ms. Peña received a Bachelor in Arts Degree from UCLA. Her career and love for still photography really began there. Her still photos were exhibited at the UCLA Art Gallery. She went on to receive a Masters in Fine Arts Degree from UCLA.
