Gilmore Station
Gilmore Station by Nina Prommer
Gilmore Station is a community retail center located on the historic northwest corner of Third and Fairfax in the heart of Los Angeles.
Where Gilmore Station is located has a long, proud history. It was part of a large tract of land purchased in 1880 by Arthur Fremont Gilmore. Gilmore moved to Los Angeles from Illinois in 1870, seeking a better life on the promising West Coast. Little did he know that his dairy farm would evolve into pioneering businesses that would forever change the city's landscape.
At the turn of the century, while drilling for water for his herd of dairy cows, Gilmore struck oil. By 1905, the dairy was gone and the Gilmore Oil Company was born.
Now it is just outside the Farmers Market and very popular with tourists and locals alike.
Nina Prommer is a well-known photographer, artist and writer. Her photographs are published around the world in newspapers, magazines, websites such as People, Time, Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, The Observer, Stern, Yahoo News among many others. We live in an amazing age and time, where good quality art can become art on your wall with the click of a button.
