Description
Emerging from an abstract background, a young woman pauses in graceful contemplation.
She is The Girl in the Copper Dress II (companion piece, Girl in a Copper Dress I and III are also on this website), and she is a dancer – in her heart, and with the every graceful move of her body.
Every movement is measured and perfectly composed. Her hands, relaxed at her sides, express the strength and grace of her movement, and she has no need to rush, no need to stumble, no need to move quickly from this place to that.
Many of us, who are not dancers, wish that we had the grace and poise of the well-trained, athletic man or woman who moves through space with an ease and confidence that causes heads around to turn. Such ease and confidence, while it comes naturally to some at a base level, is the result of much practice, much time on the floor practicing moves and exercising the body so that it exhibits strength and ability.
For many of us, we do not have the inclination to put in the time that such skill demands. But it is encouraging to realize that in life – which is a dance – we all practice, each and every day, the skills and ability needed to walk gracefully, with poise and confidence, through every situation, every moment, every incident that we encounter.
We may not always – and indeed we feel rarely – meet these challenges with the grace and poise of a well-trained dancer, but neither, then, does the physical dancer learn his or her craft in a matter of a day, or a week, or even a year. To dance, and dance well, is the practice of a lifetime, and as we learn the dance of life, the movements of strength and poise, we improve each day with the practice that we are given.
The Girl in a Copper Dress II invites us to join the young woman in her dance, and move through our space, and our day, and our life with freedom, poise, and confidence.
