This final glaze of my original surreal Colour pencil drawing on black Bristol vellum conceptually merges two vintage metaphors, The Bell Jar and The Glass Ceiling into a 2020 artist vision of what it looks like to find oneself Trapped in the bell jar of life’s DARKNESSES of Dis-eases (Anxiety and Fear) only to find Life’s gift of greater conscious awareness and Light within the contained clarity of that Light. I have reworded the definition of glass ceiling to read: “an unofficially acknowledged barrier to my personal advancement due to my mis-perceptions of how I chose to SEE and judge myself, my fellow human beings and all of Nature“. During COVID, many are re-discovering the Joy to be found in ordinary gifts: UNITY of family dinners at a shared table, COMPASSION of listening to a family member or friend who is uncertain, PLAYing with one’s children or one’s hobby, COOKing a new family favorite from limited ingredients, exchanging GRATITUDE for grumbles, SEEing Beauty of birds and flowers and sleepy eyed morning smiles...the list goes on. Might you add yours to this beginning list. What do YOU ...SEE...in the Light of this Invitational path ...within??
Note: While my colour pencilwork is normally categorized as “ Painting” my “en noire” studies do not completely cover the paper as a painting surface and so, because they utilize the paper in background composition, they will be labeled as “drawings”.

Here with your creation you have described through your art the symbolism of life. The veils of darkness (anxiety and fear) don't let us see the way to the Light but the path is there! We all walk it and as we walk the veils that cover our eyes fall away one by one. And we find the Light. And you have drawn/painted this beautifully! lori
