This is a painting of a cheetah, frustrated because his prey escaped. His spots camouflage him in his environment so he seems to melt into the background. It is painted in Oil, Encaustic, and 23kt real Gold Leaf on an archival gesso panel. Prints available.
About Michelle Philip
I am a classically trained professional artist working in encaustic, oil, and drawing. I teach master oil painting and drawing techniques to students searching for instruction in realistic art. In my own art, I have moved away from realism into a more expressive painterly style. I work mostly in encaustic and oil, focusing on landscape, figures and animals. I am married with three children. I also have two horses, a dog and a cat. If I could have my way I would also have a donkey and a goat. (My husband has wisely put his foot down.) I am originally from Zimbabwe.
