Grand Hotel, Yokohama, Japan, 1890s. This three-storey hotel, built during the Victorian period, was frequented by famous people such as Rudyard Kipling, W. Somerset Maugham and William Howard Taft. The building was later destroyed in the Great Kanto earthquake of 1 September 1923 (see C020/0504). This is a hand-coloured albumen photographic print.
