This autumn scene of raking leaves from the old maple tree to the load of pumpkins in the vintage wooden wheelbarrow completes my Four Seasons series of "Grandpa's" life long ago.
This is a companion piece to "Grandpa's Clipper Sled, Grandpa's Red Flyer Wagon, and Grandpa's Summer Harvest". All four paintings blend together to show life as it was many years ago. The old wooden shed in this piece will match up with the shed in the winter scene. The maple tree in "Grandpa's Pumpkin Patch" will also match up with the tree in "Grandpa's Summer Harvest". Each painting in this series can be paired with another on either side, thus creating a great panorama.
Grandpa has been busy in this scene, getting all the pumpkins picked from his patch behind the rusty iron garden gate and loaded in his old wooden wheelbarrow. Probably neighbors will be stopping by soon to choose their favorite orange treasure that will adorn their own front door. The leaves are almost completely down from the maple tree now and need to be raked into piles for hauling away in the old rickety wooden bushel baskets--good for one more year! Sunflowers are still blooming by the old shed where a big wooden barrel holds several tools for gardening. Fall is almost gone and winter will be approaching soon so the geese are now flying south!
