Copyright 2009 RC deWinter ~ All Rights Reserved Granny Smith apples are named for the woman who first grew them, Maria Ann Smith of New South Wales, Australia. In 1868 she told neighbors that the sport seedling had developed from crab apples originally grown in Tasmania. Unfortunately, Granny Smith never lived to see her apples become popular the world over. These excellent eating & cooking apples were first imported to the US from New Zealand in 1960. Here, a group of Granny's apples shines in reflected store lighting. This photograph has been FEATURED in ABC Arts Fantastic World Dancing the Walls Dining Decor Kitchen Art Thanks to the group hosts for their encouragement and support.
Hello and welcome to my portfolio on Pixels/Fine Art America. One of my major artistic goals, with appropriate images, is to create digital paintings that you wouldn't know were digital unless I told you. If I could paint in oils I would...alas my eyes don't work with my hand, so I create most of my art from photographs that I re-imagine. Few of my digital paintings resemble the original photographs very much when I am finished with my vision. Of course I also create work that is clearly digital as well. Here's a bit about me: RC...

Congratulations RC on your contest win! Looks like the beginning of a great pie. I had a Granny Smith Apple tree once---and I made a lot of pies--but was too young to realize how special it was to have that tree and the two cherry trees. :) f/v
RC DeWinter replied:
Thanks, Nava, how lovely to have all that fresh fruit!
