Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Roan Mountain is one of Eastern America's most scenic summits bordering on the North Carolina/Tennessee border. In early June people flock from all over to see the blooming Catawba Rhododendrons, Flame Azaleas and the breathtaking mountain views in every direction. This image, and others, was captured while attending a Dave Allen Landscape Photography workshop on Grandfather Mountain, Roan Mountain and the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, North Carolina. We had hiked up from Carvers Gap to the first grassy bald to find numerous clumps of Flame Azaleas and Catawba Rhododendrons scattered along the ridgeline. The grassy balds' were punctuated with blue skies, very large fluffy clouds that allowed for some incredible soft light and a gentle breeze. It was so cool looking out over the valley as the clouds continued to pass leaving unique shadows on the mountains below.
I have had a camera for as long as I can recall, and have taken snapshots equally as long. It was not until March of 2013 that I became obsessed with landscape photography. I have never truly experienced a sunrise/sunset, or listened to the roar of a raging waterfall until my first outing in the Monongahela National Forrest (Canaan Valley) in West Virginia. Ever since then I have been captivated by the beauty of the outdoors and the power and artistry of Mother Nature. I hope you enjoy my images and just know there is an amazing trail of experiences behind each one. I reside in Woodbridge, VA and jump at every opportunity to travel with my camera and tripod.
