Description
One of the world's most famous landmarks, The Great Wall of China is in fact a series of walls and fortifications built at various times. The walls lie roughly east - west along the historical northern borders of China and were built to protect the Chinese empires from the raids and invasions of various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe. Walls were being built as early as the 7th century BC, most of the existing wall dates from the Ming Dynasty era (1368 - 1644). This image was taken on one of the more mountainous sections of wall between Jinshanling and Simatai, which has 5 passes, 67 towers and 3 beacon towers.
