Description
The breathtaking views of Ha Ha Tonka Spring near Lake of the Ozarks and just South of Camdenton, Missouri. Native Americans called this area Ha Ha Tonka which means "laughing waters". The Spring emerges from a cave and sits just below a castle that was started by Robert McClure Snyder Sr in 1905. In 1906 he was killed in an auto accident. His sons Robert Jr. and Kenneth completed the castle in the late 1920's. It was used as a hotel until it was destroyed by a fire in 1942. In 1978, the state of Missouri purchased it and the land and opened it to the public as a state park. The average flow of the Spring is 58 million gallons of water a day.
