As I stood here painting Aoki's Shaved Ice shop in Haleiwa I spotted this classic combi toodling down main street towards me. I dropped my brushes and grabbed the camera, snapping a quick pick just as it cruised past on the way to check out the surf. I'd only intended to paint the shop but this was even better! I finished the painting of the street then took it back home to add in the Combi van. Moment captured! Returning home to New Zealand, I loved this little painting so much I decided to create a much larger studio piece from it, which you can also see here: https://www.nzpainter.com/workszoom/1797987

Born 1975. Originally a graphic designer, Richard started painting full time in 2001. He is well known in New Zealand for his landscape paintings with much of his work residing now in private and corporate collections worldwide. More recently Richard has become a popular teacher through his instructional videos sold primarily through his teaching website www.livepaintinglessons.com. Richard has been featured in several international arts magazines and in 2012 was the opening speaker for the worlds largest plein air painting convention held in America. Richard is married with two children, now residing in New Zealand.
