W&P Railroad in 1831 was chartered to buid a rail transport system across the northern teir of the lower Shenandoah Valley. Construction of the W&P began in 1833 and was complete by 1836.Rail connection became complete with the B&O Railroad in 1837. Subsequently became part of CSX Transportation in 1902.
