Description
Hatchling yellow-spotted river turtles. One month old yellow-spotted river turtles (Podocnemis uniflis). Yellow-spotted river turtles are one of the largest South American river turtles. They can grow up to 45 centimetres long and weigh up to 8 kilograms. The females lay two clutches of eggs each year in nests built in sandy areas on the banks of rivers. These are part of a captive breeding programme and will be released back into the Tiputini river. Photographed at the Tiputini Biodiversity Research Station, Ecuador.
