The muddy, red dirt road was used for sugar cane hauling trucks through the plantations and fields. No more sugar cane plantations are left on Kauai, so very few of these signs are around anymore. This sign is at the junction of Kuhio Hwy and the turnoff to Hanamaulu. Notice, too, that the sign is written in pigeon English.

I like this photo. Photography is always about history. Unfortunately, it represents only a view at the time of the shot. Probably the same happent with this sign as well...

Vadim, most photography captures only a moment, but many images and their messages and the emotions they trigger do linger in the mind. As for this sign, it is one of the only few left and it's still standing, much to my surprise.

Thank you for the feature, Sharon. I was also on Kauai before Hurricane Iniki. I thought these signs were so unique with their "Island kine pigeon language." I photographed lots of these in 35mm. Four months later, Iniki took most of them out.
