Jacob's Ladder is an ascent, the same as it was in ancient times. Climbing up to the heavens is the same journey as the descent into the primal labyrinth in the soul. The climb is not completely solitary.
A man stares in front of his brain, an alchemical phrenology of the brain is seen right through, a Pegasus flies, orange figures vomiting face away from each other, a sign points in many directions, a giraffe appears lost, a Griffin (winged lion) rests near a white man on a tightrope, angels sing, musical notes float in the aether.
Jacob's Ladder represents the connection between heaven and earth. The biblical Patriarch, Jacob, dreams during his flight from his brother Esau, as described in the Book of Genesis.
Dreamland was my Jacob’s Ladder. In fact, a silver cord was dropped from on high in a “big” dream. I had to learn to hoist myself up.
