This painting makes me happy!! The colors are really fun and, like his other pieces I own, expertly painted. I want to live in this cottage and walk into the ocean. Ordered it on canvas - well executed. Thank you for the smiles!
Artist's Description
Heceta Head, Oregon is named for the Spanish explorer, Don Bruno Heceta. He sailed in 1775!
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1892. The lighthouse grounds are about 11 miles from Florence, Oregon on Highway 101.
I have chosen to omit the huge evergreen trees that nearly obstruct the view of the lighthouse. It is much too beautiful of a structure to be ignored. There are fine carvings on the windows and stiles. This lighthouse was built with an eye to fine architecture as well as being a mariners beacon. I have also used an artists prerogative in my inclusion of the glazing. Those windows have since been sealed over with plaster because of the problems with salt air and moisture. In my painting, the view is obstructed only by nature.

About Anne Norskog
Art is in the eye of the beholder. I will not write in the third person here. That sounds pretentious and, most of the time, inaccurate. Being in the last third of my life, it becomes clear good health is the finest gift possible. Again, nature provides the most beautiful inspirations. Walk into your own garden. Stroll a beach or a path in the woods. Watch the sun and clouds or a kitten playing with a piece of string. Pay attention to the faces you see...they each tell their own story. Create something wonderful that has a piece of your own heart on it. The emotions that drive us human beings also drive our art. The viewer is respectfully reminded my works are copyright protected. Please visit me often. Kindest...

If I could I would vote on each of your beautiful lighthouses a dozen times each Anne. And the education you provide us with each piece is so important in adding to our appreciation of each of these historic structures. Just phenomenal. F/V

Wonderful painting! I can't wait to go home. I grew up in Florence, Oregon just south of here. And you even got Sea Lion Cave's in the distance! I'll be sure to go here on my trip in a couple of weeks :-) !

Thank you Mel! Heceta Head is one of the most famous lighthouses on the West Coast. Carl Leick designed this beacon and it is a "clone" of the lighthouses in Seattle and Tacoma as well as Umpqua Head in Oregon. Of course, each site required its own special touches but the basic designs are the same. Leick was from Germany and held degrees in engineering and architecture. The U.S. Lighthouse Service commissioned his services and this design is one of many he created. His motto was, "I build them beautiful and I build them to last".

Your lighthouses are truly remarkable ! I visited some of the Oregon lights just last week and you have really created such nice tributes to them. I enjoy your work very much !
