The moss covered rocks and fallen trees make this a truly beautiful place along Hemlock Creek. Hemlock Falls is located only a short distance from Lake in the Woods in Southern Oregon. It's an 80 ft tiered type falls in a very remote location. All the moisture from the Falls and mist create a mini rainforest. This is why it's so lush around the base of many waterfalls.

This was my first time visiting Hemlock Falls, and I found I was shooting into the rising sun, which makes a difficult shoot. But instead of a poor photo, I was intrigued when rays from the sun lit up the upper part of the falls and moss. It made me say,Wow!

When I grab my camera and head out, I get totally lost...absorbed. I see things I previously walked right past. I see the way the sun is highlighting the ivy on that dead tree; or backlighting those Oregon Grape leaves making the orange, red and green of fall glow. Then, the crowning touch, it's covered with ice crystals. I love the challenge and excitement of finding that unusual or special setting... that glimpse of beauty to capture and enjoy later, visiting it often like an old friend. I live in Oregon, and my passion is to share the beauty I find all around me here in the Pacific Northwest. Just in Southern Oregon alone, we have 2 national parks, 2 national monuments, 6 national wildlife refuges, 11 national forests, and 19...
