Description
The Hermit Thrush (Catharus guttatus) is a spotted thrush that is widespread through much of North America. Preferred habitat is in brushy and open forest areas. Besides being spotted, this thrush has a red tail and a white eye ring. Three populations have been described based on slight physical differences (Eastern, Interior, Pacific) that interbreed. The Hermit Thrush measures about 6.75 inches in length and about 1.1 ounces in weight. The species breed in Canada, Alaska and northeastern and western United States, and migrate in order to winter in the southern United States and Mexico. They commonly forage in trees and shrubs, and on the forest floor, for insects, berries, and seeds. The Hermit Thrush is the state bird of Vermont.
This solitary Hermit Thrush foraging for berries in shrubs and trees was photographed at the Coastal Audubon Center, Milford, Connecticut, on 10-22-2015. I used Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR2 lens to capture this image.

Nice image Morris! looks something like the Wood Thrush.
Morris Finkelstein replied:
Thank you Gail! You're right that it is sometimes challenging to distinguish between several of the spotted Thrushes.
