Description
There's something about the cool soothing tones of the blue hour that would have had me sitting back and taking in all the incredible sights - if it weren't for the photographic mission I was on. On this night-time / early morning adventure, I was determined to bring back some of my favorite captures of Summit County's high country.
With my attending outdoor festivals and galleries in the area lately, I've found I get asked quite often if I have coverage of a certain known area of the state. Often times I find that I don't but would like to have that coverage in time. For some reason, the ski resorts stand out as a logical choice as many of the people who visit Colorado's high country are skiers.
So between that and the desire to hike up to a really high point in winter where we could see everything from Milky Way stars and light pollution to night-time snowcats roaming Arapahoe Basin, I felt compelled to return for this, my third trip to Cupid. And after having made it up for a late-night series of starry sky images, we stuck around for twilight - allowing for the panoramic capture you see above.
From the quarter moon above Torreys Peak on the left all the way to the hairpin curves of Loveland Pass on the far right, there sure is a lot to take in from this high mountain viewpoint. This image was taken from near the top of Cupid (elevation 13,100ish) after a night-time trek above timberline from the top of Loveland Pass, Colorado.
