Artist's Description
At the height of summer, the Oak Leaf Hydrangea dissplays a wide range of colors in memory of Spring and in anticipation of autumn. In this piece I concentrated on the pattern of dark shapes created by the negative spaces between the leaves and blossoms. The painting won the combined award from the Georgia Watercolor Society and the Southern Watercolor Society at the 2009 National Exhibition of the Alabama Watercolor Society.
About Craig Gallaway
Craig Gallaway has been an artist all his life. He studied art and Christian formation at the University of Texas at Arlington (B.F.A. in painting, 1973); Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. (M.C.S. interdisciplinary studies in art history and theology, 1978); and Emory University (Ph.D. in theology and spiritual formation, 1988). Craig worked in the publishing industry in Nashville, TN (1988 to 1995, where he and his wife, Deborah, also played their original music in the songwriters circuit) and then as professor of art and spiritual formation at Samford University (1995 to 2004).
