The 102nd running of the Gold Cup races in Detroit, Michigan (July 8 -10, 2011) saw Dave Villwock pilot the Spirit of Qatar to victory on the Detroit River. This was Villwock's 63rd win and historic because it took 30 years to top the old record of 62 wins, set by the legendary Bill Muncey of La Mesa, California. Villwock has been racing unlimited hydroplanes for 22 years, and earned 30 of his victories with the Miss Budweiser team from 1997 until 2004 when Anheuser-Busch ended their 43 year sponsorship.
