Excellent work Glenn!

What a wonderful honor to have your work shown at the American society of Marine Artists Northeast Regional Exhibit - so well deserving of that and more; this is so realistic and exceptional artwork which inspires and delights - congratulations!!!

Paul Weisner

The "Cruel Sea" is one of my favorite novels. Your painting captures the spirit of the ship in the story. Unlike the destroyers dodging about, HMS Compass Rose, unassuming in her weather beaten and rusted hull, plods along, faithfully doing her duty. A painting well done, sir.

Tammy Drombolis

Congratulations!

Unbelievably incredible!!!!!

Congratulations Glenn!!!!!!!!!

This is breath taking, and warming a "old" navy hearth. Thanks for sharing this moment in time both historical and artistic.

Paul Tokarski

WOW! What gems you have here at FAA. This painting looks like you were there to capture it.

Blima Efraim

What a nice piece. I can feel the movement of the ocean. Gorgeous

Beautifully made product. I love it.

I'm very happy with the picture itself; looks great, and matches the depiction on the website. The attachment for the hook (on the back, of course) was located too close to the top. Had to do a bit extra work so that the nail holding hook was not visible. Colors/theme perfect for my house.

i returned it my wife thought it was offensive

It is a very nice product, however, the top corner came damaged. The wrapping job was excellent so I think it was damaged before packing. The piece is heavy and too much of a pain in the neck to return so I would like some monetary compensation for the damage.

Fabulous. It arrived very carefully wrapped and packed. The print itself is exceptionally well done, and it includes a sophisticated bracket system for hanging which was easy to work with.

Artist's Description

This is the third painting in my "Ships That Never Were" series. It depicts the British, Flower Class corvette "HMS Compass Rose" protecting an allied convoy during the early years of World War II. She and her crew are the subject of Nicholas Monsarrat's finest novel: "The Cruel Sea" first published in 1951. The painting was selected to be shown at the American Society of Marine Artists Northeast Regional Exhibit from May 2008 until January 2009.

About Glenn Secrest

Glenn Secrest

I'm a retired US Navy Captain and former business executive. While I have not had any academic training in painting, I've been privileged to work under the guidance of several of today's masters. I studied drawing with Thomas Deininger of the Newport (Rhode Island) Art Museum and oil painting with Scott Christensen in his Idaho studio. I`ve also participated in workshops with internationally-known artists Tony Couch and Tom Lynch in the Carolinas; and Randall Scott, Larry Gerber, Charles Gruppe`and Hugh O`Neill in Florida. Having spent almost all of my life near or on the sea, my first love is marine subjects. Concentrating in oils and watercolors, my other interests are landscapes and still-lifes. Through frequent travel, both in...
