British Destroyer HMS Duncan weathering a mid-Atlantic gale while escorting WWII Convoy.
Acrylic, oil and Watercolour.
I am first and foremost a Gemini. My feet are placed precariously in several camps and constantly and easily cross over many boundaries. My working life spanned 3 decades and embraced 3 continents. Some of my time was spent in the British Royal Navy and much of it in the International Automotive Industry. An Engineer and Designer is automatically a keen observer of life and human nature and from that I take much inspiration for my art. I do not call myself just an artist but rather a purveyor, documenter and expositor of life, from which my art bleeds and sometimes gushes forth! My skills and qualifications have been honed over decades, influenced by both current and long dead artists., Some of those with whom I...

Thank you for that addendum, Ray…your work is always powerfully expressed!…v..best to you

My respects for your dad, one should never forget his sacrifice. HMS Duncan was one of the ships that took to task the German submarine menace in the Atlantic. Within months, the change of tactics changed the U-Boats from agressor to victim.

MAGNIFICENT MIXED MEDIA painting, Ray…I so hope you might add a few words as to the inspiration for this powerful WWII portrait behind the scenes… my dad was a totally disabled WWII- Korean Conflict veteran. I am always moved by the energy of your work.

:o) I am sure you will create a masterpiece Mike. Once one was there for the duration then they were said to be in the Profession.:o)
Mike Jeffries
I'll do my best but I've got a lot to live up to looking at your work. I've never heard the Royal Navy referred to as the Professional Navy but one learns something every day. Reminds me of a little story of when two war ships met in the middle of the ocean. The American destroyer signaled " Greetings from the World's biggest navy" The answer came back" Thank you and the same to you from the World's best navy"
Ray Agius
Hello Mike. You are making me blush my friend. Wonderful compliment from an artist I admire. I see your dad was in the Professional Navy I am sure you can come up with something magnificent as a tribute.
Mike Jeffries
Well Ray, you may not call yourself an artist but you are in my book, this piece is superb indeed it's a subject I should attempt as a tribute to my Dad who was a 22 year man,(1924-46) however if this is good your portraiture is absolutely top drawer. I've lately been contributing to a discussion thread here on FAA about what an artist is, you my friend are an artist without doubt.
Ray Agius
Thank you so much for featuring HMS. Duncan.
Ray Agius
Thank you Bill for adding it as featured work.
