Artist's Description

A high quality render of HMS Hood as she appeared in 1937 - as viewed from bow to stern, at speed within the Mediterranean Sea, together with ship's wake. My artwork clearly shows her primary armament 15 inch guns (with the fwd turrets "A" and "B" featuring flagship and neutrality markings), together with her front conning tower (including air defence platform), funnels and main mast (including wireless rig). My artwork also shows her secondary armament of: 5.5 inch guns, 4 inch anti-aircraft guns, quadruple 0.5 inch anti-aircraft guns and eight barrelled two pounder anti-aircraft "pom-poms". Fine details such as her main anchors, anchor chains, hawsers and derricks have also been included.

About Christopher Snook

Christopher Snook

I've always had an interest in artwork, and love battleships :) It made sense to combine the two! HMS Hood has always been my favourite battleship (though some would say battle-cruiser). To me, she had the size and power of a battleship, and would not look "out of place" if she "sailed into port today". She was the most graceful warship ever created - that represented a "way of life" (on the seas) that now no longer exists. My artwork helps to remember these "bygone times".
