I ordered this piece which has been produced on wood and I'm extremely pleased with it. I love the work of this artist and have many of her books, several prints and a few originals. Absolutely stunning.

Love the small and narrow size on wood - fits on an icon stand for a table perfectly. Print is a a little blurry, which may be a quality of the original as it looks that way on the site as well.

Artist's Description

Honey bee inoculation. Pipette being used to inoculate a honey bee (Apis mellifera) with the microsporidian parasite Nosema that causes the disease nosemosis. This research will help determine bee infection rates and immune responses to this parasite. Much research has been carried out to try and explain the honey bee syndrome known as 'colony collapse disorder' (CCD). CCD is the sudden disappearance of worker bees from a colony. The cause is poorly understood, but may be due to a combination of factors, such as mite infestation or various viruses. Nosemosis is thought to be one of the possible causes.

About Stephen Ausmus/us Department Of Agriculture

Stephen Ausmus/us Department Of Agriculture

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
