Painted this based on an older photo I had from a missionary trip to Haiti. The photo was taken after a hurricane/bad tropical storm. These people lived in thatch huts which are easily destroyed by wind and rain. It is rare to see "elderly" in Haiti as their life expectancy is so poor. I thought the facial expression easily applied to the post earthquake events. They are a joyous people who have suffered too much.
