Description
Once back in Houston from my Texas Courthouses road trip, I had to do a lot of research to find out about the buildings and structures I had photographed along the way. One of these structures was the "Horace Eggleston's House", located in Gonzales, TX. The building and the cannon caught my attention as I was driving by, so I had to stop to capture it in a panoramic format. Turns out that the Eggleston's house is what's called a "dog-run house" or "dogtrot house." Obviously I had to resort to the Free Online Encyclopedia to learn the definition of this type of construction. It turns out that this design worked great to ventilate the house during the hot Summer days: it consists of two log cabins with a breezeway in the middle. The combination of this feature with the open windows created air currents which pulled "cooler air" from the outside into all the rooms. I hope it worked for them! Thanks for looking.
