Description
Human insulin. View of hands drawing Human Mixtard insulin from a drug vial into a syringe. Human Mixtard 30/70 is a highly purified insulin (30% soluble, 70% isophane) administered by injection. Insulin is a pancreatic hormone which controls glucose metabolism. Glucose is a sugar which occurs in the blood, and insulin promotes glucose absorption into the liver and muscle cells. Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which there is a deficiency of insulin production; patients with diabetes require regular insulin injections to lower their blood glucose levels. Human Mixtard is prepared by modification of porcine (pig) insulin.
