Description
I was driving through Carlin Park in Jupiter, Florida when I saw this Yellow-crowned Night Heron (Nyctanassa violacea) out of the corner of my eye. That being an odd thing to see there, I stopped, got out of the car and walked slowly toward it. The closer I got, this pose was struck and I started snapping. It reminded me of the movie line with the New York accent, "I'm just standin' heah...I'm just STANDING heah!" Al Pacino? Anyway, it created a rather different shot than usual for this species.

What an unusual and beautiful pose of this magnificent Yellow-crowned Night Heron, William! Lovely composition and presentation. I agree with Heather, looks like it wants a hug. Awesome work! F/L

Have never seen a night heron in this pose ... mostly GBH's. Must be an instinctual thing for keeping cool and/or drying off. Cool capture, William. l/fv/tw
