This image of water lilies is a photograph I took of the actual pond, and water lilies, at the home of French Impressionist painter Claude Monet, in Giverny, France, which were the subject matter of his famous Nympheas (Water Lilies) oil paintings.
Like Monet's paintings, this photograph focuses on the surface of the water with its reflections, here of the surrounding weeping willow trees, and its floating water lilies. Also like the paintings, this image has no horizon, and has an abstract and atmospheric quality.
Photograph taken August 26, 2013, when I had the pleasure of spending the morning visiting the l'Orangerie museum in Paris, which houses Monet's large water lilies murals. and spending the afternoon visiting his home and gardens in Giverny.
