This painting was inspired by a photograph that I took while on a hike up Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, USA. I left a heart-shaped opening in the leaves where the trees come together in the distance above the road...Hence, the title, "In Love with Fall River Road."
This stretch of road in Rocky Mountain National Park is a family favorite any time of year, but especially in autumn. The aspen along here are mature and spectacular...and you may even hear an elk bugle!
I painted the entire canvas a deep pink before I started the composition. Tiny portions of that show through the completed painting and give the finished piece a subtle glow. This is one of the first paintings I did when I was developing my signature style as a student of renowned artist, Lillian Kennedy.
