This is a painting about fantasy and history, a cast off from the days of the early 1800s, when creatures of the sea were still unknown, and therefore feared. The kraken legends are thought to have originated from the rare sightings of giant squids, which are normally deep-sea dwellers and can grow to over 50 feet in length.

Is the beast merely curious, or does it have evil intentions?
