It would be very helpful to know what the # s correspond to.
Indian Pipes Wildflower (Monotropa uniflora) is a true, flowering plant and not a fungus. It lacks chlorophyll because it gathers nutrient from the roots of a host plant through a host fungi relationship. The pale appearance gives it a common name of "Corpse Plant". Most plants are completely white or have
a pale pink cast (like these), but there are very rare instances where the plant is a true red - I've never seen it but would love to!
Transplanting this flower is next to impossible because of it's dependency on a fungal partner combined with a plant partner. Enjoy them where they bloom and leave them alone to thrive where they feel at home.
In our area they appear and bloom reliably in August and September or thereabouts. This picture was taken September 11, 2011, in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA, in a hardwood forest.

I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

What intriguing plants Carol and so beautifully presented. Almost as if they live in some secret place, trying to avoid discovery! Love this. F/V
Carol Senske replied:
I love finding them in the woods - prettier than squaw root but similar in that they don't produce chlorophyll but depend upon partnerships to get nourishment. Thank you for the vote and fave - I truly appreciate that you made this image a fave.!
