International eugenics logo depicting the eugenics 'tree' and the view that eugenics draws its materials from many sources (sciences named in tree roots). This broadside (poster) is part of the collections of the Eugenics Record Office (ERO), Cold Spring Harbor, New York, USA. It was used as the logo of the Second International Congress of Eugenics in New York, USA, in 1922. Eugenics is the controversial practice of selectively improving the genetics of human populations. Eugenics grew in popularity in the 19th and early 20th century, but was discredited by its history of racist assumptions and support of programs of forced sterilizations.
