According to my friend and painting mentor, Bev, a whole slew of "rules" were broken when I created Into the Blue, not the least of which was the big slash of blue across the diagonal of the picture. She softened her stance somewhat when I explained that the Big Blue Diagonal no-no was a monoprint created using a discarded pair of pantyhose, which she said was perhaps the best use they had been put to in the past 50 years or so. As a non wearer myself I wouldn't know but will take her word for it. Into the Blue: all craziness, color, swirl and action bouncing around and into the blue. Interest element monoprints were created using found objects: a piece of rubber band the cat had chewed, a few keychain links, a discarded UPS bubblewrap envelope, the bottom of a foam fast food container and other "junk" that left its own indelible and very singular impression. Any why not?

After 30 years as a senior design engineer in the automotive field I missed the creative aspects that some parts of my job entailed. Years earlier before career and business became paramount I had done portrait work of grade school mates in charcoal and fun work in pastels, along with Currier & Ives style oil painting later on.
