Description
Intravenous feeding research. Physiologist and paediatrician (left) with a fellow paediatrician, examining a microscope image of pancreatic beta cells obtained from piglets fed by total parenteral nutrition (TPN). TPN involves a patient being fed intravenously with no other sources of nutrition provided. This feeding technique can cause alterations in body tissues at the microscopic level. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture. Photographed at the Children's Nutrition Research Center in Houston, Texas, USA.
