Free hand ,multi color, one of a kind ,scrimshaw ,freestanding mantle piece or desktop art work,on ten thousand year old mammoth tusk.This will be the first in a series of irish butterflies.Everything I do is one of a kind,some of the following butterflies will be done as wearable scrimshaw jewelry.

Coming soon.my name is tom burke, I do a unique kind of scrimshaw called celtic scrimshaw. I only work with ten thousand year old mammoth or mastodon tusk.No animals are harmed when I do my scrimshaw. I have been doing this since 1994 and do all my work free hand. The knots I use to decorate my pieces are my interpretation of knots found in the Book of Kells. My dream has been to create a one of a kind piece of hand carved mammoth tusk jewelry decorated with multi-color celtic knots, which would preserve the celtic art form through scrimshaw. It is my hope that anyone that purchases one of my pieces will start a tradition of passing it on down through their family preserving the celtic art form for another ten thousand years.
