Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859). Statue of the British civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Brunel is most famous for his work on the Great Western Railway (GWR), founded in 1833, for which he designed and built tracks between London and southwest England. In 1825 Brunel helped his father to construct the first tunnel under the Thames in London. In 1830 he won a competition to design and build the Clifton Suspension Bridge at Bristol. He later designed huge steam ships capable of crossing the Atlantic. Photographed on the Victoria Embankment, London, UK.
