Description
ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ is nêhiyawêwin syllabics meaning iskwêw or woman. This piece is the 4th of 4 in my ᓂᐦᑖᐃᐧᑭᐃᐧᐣ nihtâwikiwin birth medicine series. This piece depicts the power of iskwêw, which in the Cree language teaches that the womxn, like the fire in a lodge, is the giver of life and heart of the home. This piece honours the power of iskwêwak as life givers, in all the ways that iskwêwak nurture life, whether through raising children, nurturing family or community, artwork, entrepreneurship, growing medicines or food, or myriad other creative forms. iskwêw is connected and rooted firmly in the earth, while interconnected with all of creation. Her baby is connected with the heavens, grounded through the wâspison and tihkinâkan.
