Artist's Description

"The Battle of Iwo Jima On February 19, 1945 about 70,000 marines invaded the small Pacific Island of Iwo Jima which was under control of the Japanese army. The island was a strategic objective due to its airfield which was used for kamikaze attacks. By capturing the island, the Allied Forces would not only prevent attacks from the island but it would also give them a base from where the Japanese mainland could be reached by B-29 Superfortresses."

About Cindy Manero

Photography has always been a part of my life. As children, my brother and I used to play in our father's darkroom developing black and white photos for the fun of it. As we grew up, my brother, John Krause, went on to do some professional photography in Hollywood. My first 35 mm camera was a Pentax given to me by my brother so I could photograph my children. I went on to take several classes in 35 mm SLR, and then came the digital age. I don't embrace technology - I rather gravitate towards it kicking and screaming. However, photography is in my blood. It is my passion. I love taking photos, and I hope you enjoy them as well.
