When I began making this collage, I used a piece of my hand-painted paper and then looked for a postage stamp that might work well with it. And ta da! I found this pretty stamp in my collection that was issued in 1995. The colors of the torii in the lake and the trees worked beautifully with the orange-ish colors in the background paper. I had a bit of pale blue paper with silver lines on it, so cut it into squares to pull the whole piece together. I love how it can often be so simple to create a thing of beauty, and in this case I used just three elements: background paper, blue/silver paper, and a pretty postage stamp.
