Lois, Thank You for sharing your beautiful and soft capture of the Lantern, as well as posting the official information brief about its significance. I took the NPS Ranger Walk in DC was so incredibly amazed how these were gifts to the USA from Japan after WWI. Then we destroyed all Japan's beautiful native trees in WWII. But someone had the ingenuity to graft our trees and return them in the 1950s to repopulate Japan's beauty. In my muse over Fukushimo disaster I can't help but try to cover with a see of cherry blossoms. I Voted for and Tweeter your art. GJ glorijean

The material was sent in a bag and was extremely creased

I am the artist who ordered these items. I was disappointed with the fleece blankets. The image printed crooked on 4 of the 5 blankets and the 'plush fleece' is very different from the plush fleece blankets I ordered previously. No where near as 'plush'. These blankets were unsellable. Also, one of the tapestries showed up with a thread that was pressed right into the fabric which made it unsellable as well. The reason I didn't ship these items back was due to the fact that by the time I received the order, there was insufficient time to return the order in time to meet the '30 day' from the date ordered deadline. This is the first time I've been disappointed with an order featuring my art by way of FAA. Sadly, it makes me hesitant to order again.

Artist's Description

The Japanese Stone Lantern located on the Tidal Basin, among the glorious blossoming cherry blossoms in Washington DC, is the site of a beautiful ceremony every year. The Lighting Ceremony is a formal ceremonial lighting of the Japanese Stone Lantern beneath the cherry blossom trees on the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. The lantern itself was carved 360 years ago and was first lit in 1651 to honor the Third Shogun of the Tokugawa period. It was given to the City of Washington as a gift in 1954 and symbolizes friendship and peace between Japan and the United States. The lantern is lit only once each year during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The ceremony is free and open to the public. My thanks to the About.com Washington DC website for this information. Image captured with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens March 27, 2011. 2960

About Lois Bryan

Welcome to Lois Bryan Photography and Digital Art. I'm a photographer and digital artist living in the mid-Atlantic area of the US. Most of my images are based on the photos I capture ... some are based on images captured by my son, Rich Bryan ... and some are sketched and digitally painted completely freehand. Although my goal will always be to catch that perfect shot straight out of the camera, I love exploring the artistic and creative process as I work with Photoshop and other image editing programs. Fine art purchases of my images will not include watermarks, and if I may make a recommendation ... images will look their very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
