... Just before sunrise,
this is Driftwood Beach
on Jekyll Island...
The tide is coming in
and the waves are beginning
to soak the exposed roots
of the big oak trees
that stretch along
this interesting bit of coastline
in Georgia.
The trees are worn
by years of tides and storms,
many still standing in the spot
they grew while others
have fallen like soldiers
on the battlefield.
The clouds have parted to give
a peek of golden color at the horizon
and the sun is just about
to make an appearance.
The sand is wet and rippled
from the wave action
while the salt tides reflect
the gnarly branches of the trees
on the edge of the surf...
