Description
The British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) organized in 1804 to evangelize the world through the distribution and teaching of the Christian Bible and study literature. From its inception the BFBS viewed Israel (then Turkish Palestine) as a primary mission field. The first BFBS coordinated with local missionaries in Jerusalem and Holy Land, supplying Bibles for evangelistic work throughout the 19th century. In 1870 the BFBS opened a small depot in Nazareth and in 1905 a center opened near Jerusalem's Jaffa Gate.
This sign hangs inside Jerusalem's Old City, near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
