So it’s a gift for my dad and haven’t gave it to him yet but we FaceTime and he loved it … I was so worried about ordering here cuz never heard of the company but I’m so glad I did and it came out perfect perfect perfect.

Super happy how print came out, but looks a little less vibrant even after just a cool water quick wash. Still nice looking, but would have preferred the vibrancy to have remained.

Jon's Ham holds memories for many; a great lunch break for Key West High students, and a popular hang out after boys baseball games, especially for the Jon Ham's little league team!
It is all in the detail. My work is a combination of realism and folk art, showing the laid back and colorful island life in which I was raised. I strive to add energy to my paintings by including people, animals, birds, that are all a part of my Conch upbringing. I not only endeavor to portray my life as a child growing up in Key West, but also the island as it exists today through the eyes of the many people who visit throughout the year. In my latest work, you will see Key West as it was long-ago. In walking the neighborhoods I am reminded of how things once were. I bring my own memories into each piece, lovingly taking the extra time to add details, whether it is a sign on a building that once was, or children playing in the...

This painting brings back many many memories. My parents owned Jon's, and I worked there many hours while I was growing up. The building originally was an old barn that kept the family's dairy cows. My grand-parents owned a dairy during the depression. Love the image of my dad, John Menendez, seated in the front.
Linda Cabrera replied:
Hi Rosemarie, thanks for the history of Jon's. I always do my best to learn as much as possible of the places I paint so this is really appreciated! Do you have any photos of it when your parents owned it? Would love to see! Does the image of your dad look like him? Thanks again for your comments!

I was born in Key West and now live in Lakeland. I lived on Venetia st. and My grandparents lived on Flagler. A navy Brat....

Thanks Sharon. Do you live in Key West? The building still stands as a real estate type business. It's located on 1st Street, near the Flagler/Bertha Street intersection. It was a very populer grocery/sandwich shop.

I haven't seen this building that I recall, great painting Linda.
