Juglans Nigra (Black Walnut). This painting is an exploration of the spirit of the black walnut tree. The black walnut is a healing tree, but also possesses a dark and dangerous side, not unlike the way that some medicines can both heal and harm. Relating to dark walnut requires a high degree of respect and honor. The black walnut nut meat has been shown to help with heart health. The fruit skins can be used to make a dark dye or ink. The owl in the painting represents the black walnut's guardian spirit, which can travel in both the actual and spiritual worlds.
