Description
Fortunately, this lovely 1920 photograph is identified as Mrs. Oskar Johnson and family. Her name was Julia. Her son Bror (left at 2 years) and daughter Doris (right at 4 years). Julia's husband was a carpenter in Manchester, Connecticut. They lived at 233 Center Street which is still standing today. Photograph from the original glass negative, circa 1920s. All photographs offered in this 1920s collection were taken by a rather obscure, but accomplished commercial photographer by the name of John A. Swanson, who lived and worked in Manchester, Connecticut in the 1920s. Swanson’s photographic studio was known as “The New Studio,” and is referenced in U.S. Census Records as well as Hartford, Connecticut Directories. Swanson lived at 9 Johnson Terrace, Manchester, Connecticut, only a couple of blocks from his photographic studio. His house is still standing today.
